TIDES BENEATH THE SUN
Tides Beneath the Sun is an original Japanese wave-inspired 3D wood wall artwork, crafted from twelve precision-cut layers of basswood plywood.
Sweeping waves, a circular sun, boats, clouds, and a distant snow-capped mountain come together in a richly detailed vertical composition. The 3.6 cm (1.42 in) depth creates real dimension and natural shadows—not a flat printed effect.
Individually hand-colored in sage green, warm cream, deep navy, terracotta brown, and natural wood tones, the artwork brings movement, warmth, and sculptural character to contemporary interiors.
THE DESIGN
Inspired in part by the expressive wave language of Katsushika Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa, this original STEREOWOOD design reinterprets that influence through a new vertical composition, layered wood construction, and an integrated ornamental border.
Rather than directly reproducing the original image, the design creates its own balance between sweeping waves, the sun, distant scenery, and decorative details.
CRAFTSMANSHIP
Each piece is designed and made in our own studio, precision laser-cut, hand-sanded, individually hand-colored, and hand-assembled.
Twelve layers of basswood plywood create an overall depth of 3.6 cm (1.42 in). A full back panel supports the finished construction, while the decorative wood border forms part of the artwork itself.
There is no separate removable frame or glass/acrylic cover. The artwork arrives fully assembled.

Designed for vertical hanging, the artwork works beautifully above a console or sideboard, or as a focal point in a living room, entryway, dining area, study, or home office.
READY TO HANG
Pre-installed hanging hardware is included, along with an installation kit containing two sizes of expansion plugs and screws, concrete wall nails, and a mini spirit level.

Hardware Mounting Kit: A complete set of high-quality hardware for secure and straightforward installation on various wall types. This includes:
- Plastic Wall Anchors & Screws: Essential for secure mounting into drywall, plaster, or other hollow wall materials. Simply drill a pilot hole, insert the anchor, and then drive the screw to create a strong, stable hanging point.
- Steel Nails: Ideal for hanging lighter items or for tapping directly into wall studs when additional support is needed.

For a secure and stable setup, we recommend anchoring the piece into wall studs or using suitable wall plugs.
Depending on your artwork’s size (edge length or diameter):
- Smaller than 15.7 in / 40 cm: use 1 mounting point
- Larger than 31.5 in / 80 cm: use 2 mounting points
For pieces in between these sizes, using 2 points is recommended for extra stability.
Keep your artwork away from humidity and direct sunlight. Gently dust it with a soft, dry cloth or brush to maintain its natural luster. Avoid using water or cleaning sprays.
